A community issue

1 min read

I’m writing to support Jeffreys Drug Store in Canonsburg. There’s a lot to be said about a neighborhood pharmacist having a personal relationship with his customers. Jeffreys has served families in this area for 27 years.

Even after living away for years and returning to this area, I chose Jeffreys. It was great to see the business thriving, especially when so many in Canonsburg had left and others had been devastated by the COVID-19 shutdowns.

Why am I writing this letter? In February, UPMC and Highmark stopped using Jeffreys Drug Store to fill prescriptions.

Is this something new for big insurance companies? No. Does it make it right? No.

No one at Jeffreys Drug Store asked me to write this letter. The Observer-Reporter is a community newspaper, and this is a community issue that is hitting a hometown business at its core.
