Trump supports Christian principles

2 min read

I would like to respond to Ronald Yamka’s letter of April 18.

Doesn’t it seem unusual that almost all fundamental Christians support Donald Trump over our current president? Well, there is a good reason for this. We are well aware of Trump’s uncouth and brash behavior, as well as his womanizing in the past, but we are not supporting him for his personality, but for what he has accomplished for our country, as well as for Israel.

I have not heard any of my friends say that they want Trump to rule as a dictator.

Yamka asked a minister to give an example of “the Lord contracting out his earthly tasks to a blatantly corrupt person.” Well, I can do that. The Jewish people have compared Trump to King Cyrus, who was not a godly man, but was used by God to accomplish what God desired. King Cyrus allowed the Jews to return to Jerusalem from Babylonian captivity, and allowed them to rebuild their temple.

On Dec. 6, 2017, because of Trump, the U.S. officially recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, and moved the U.S. embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. Those who know the Bible realize how important this is for the fulfillment of prophecy. Past presidents have promised this, but it was never fulfilled. Israel was so pleased with this move that an educational organization focusing on the Jewish temple minted a coin with the image of Trump alongside of the image of King Cyrus.

In addition to this, Trump updated federal guidance regarding protesting prayer and religious expression, signed an executive order on religious liberty, reversed President Obama’s transgender public school policies, nominated a strong conservative to the Supreme Court, and supports Christian principles.

So, no, we are not blinded, nor are we praising Trump. But as Christians, we cannot support someone who stands blatantly against Christian principles.
