Parade was an atrocity
If someone witnessing the recent parade that was presented by the Mount Pleasant Volunteer Fire Department in Westmoreland County thought that it was 1915 again, they could be forgiven.
1915 was the year that the infamous movie “The Birth of a Nation” was released. It promoted white supremacy and portrayed Blacks as bloodthirsty savages and animals who sought to prey upon a caucasian-dominated America. The film is credited with sparking a rejuvenation of what was at that time a moribund Ku Klux Klan.
The parade was an atrocity which featured someone playing Donald Trump in a vehicle which was towing a woman who was tied to the car, dressed to resemble Kamala Harris. A woman with a pitiable child on her lap was operating the car. Some in the crowd expressed their approval of the float.
Have we sunk so far as for something like this to see the light of day and meet the approval of those who can now proudly display their bigotry?
This is a day that I am embarrassed to admit that I am a resident of southwestern Pennsylvania, just miles from the site of a parade which was a gathering of degenerates.
