LETTER: Re-elect Garrity for treasurer
The office of treasurer of Pennsylvania requires an understanding of finance, a disciplined set of values and values that reflect our state. Incumbent Stacy Garrity has all of those attributes. The same cannot be said for her opponent.
A decorated Iraq War veteran and successful businesswoman, Garrity has returned a record $500 million in lost and abandoned property. Her promotion of the state’s 529 college savings program has won Gold Star ratings from credit agencies while lowering fees for families. She did this while rising above partisan politics, retaining Democratic employees at Treasury.
Erin McClelland has walked away from thousands of dollars in campaign debts and the Federal Elections Commission took the extraordinary step of dissolving her congressional campaign committee after she repeatedly failed to file legally required expense reports. In short: Erin McClelland is unfit to oversee $160 billion in state assets.
Stacy Garrity has proven herself worthy, both at home and abroad. This decision should be easy.
