LETTER: In mourning for my country
Some may wonder why my American flag is at half-staff every day. It was lowered in respect for late President Jimmy Carter, and due to the 30-day period of mourning that ended on January 29. The flag continues to remain there, and I have no intention to raise it any time soon, if ever.
My reason is simple, I am in mourning for my country. The United States of America is currently under hostile takeover by elected and unelected “leaders”, specifically Donald Trump and Elon Musk, and their cronies. The damage that has been “accomplished” in three weeks or so is already incalculable. And the unqualified hacks that are being installed to head departments and agencies have great potential for boundless destruction. I fear this presidency.
Perhaps even more sad is how Republican United States senators have sold out, because they fear defeat when it comes time for reelection. A job as U.S. senator in now more important than allegiance to the United States Constitution. They have effectively been cowed by Trump.
My flag is at half staff for a fully-thought out reason. If others decide that decision is for them, I would welcome seeing the occasional flag at half staff.
