LETTER: Suppression of freedom of speech

2 min read

Someone writing to a newspaper asking for them to stop printing editorials that go against their beliefs, religion, current political party or president is telling the newspaper to go against the First Amendment in the Constitution of the United States, allowing freedom of speech. Everyone in America has the right to free speech, even in the written word. If you don’t agree with the writer, then write a rebuttal using facts to back up your story.

Donald J. Trump did win the electorate and popular vote. It should be told that Joe Biden won the popular vote by eight million and Donald Trump by fewer than two million votes. His win is not a mandate. His popular vote is 49.8%, less than half. Only in Washington County did he get over 50% of the vote, not the country.

Another fact is his appointment of less than qualified Cabinet members. He is using executive orders to try to keep his campaign promises and not using the House and Senate as written in the Constitution. How much taxpayer money has he wasted in his first 45 days with attorneys having to fight these orders? How much money did it cost the taxpayers for him to attend the Super Bowl and Daytona? Yes, he is not taking a salary of $400,000 a year, but is costing the taxpayers more.

Oren Spiegler, Kent James, Gary Stout and all others, please keep writing and telling us the truth. Don’t let the single-minded suppress our freedom of speech.
