LETTER: Thanks for the memories
As its lifespan approaches its end, I want to take this opportunity to say goodbye and thanks to Washington Mall for all of the memories. My heart is breaking because I grew up in that mall. I believe we are very close to the same age. When it was in its heyday, it crawled with people. It always looked amazing during the holidays. Ag days, car shows, sports card shows, the Super Bowl of Chili, and on, at its height, there was no other place to be.
I can’t believe this is coming to an end. When the wrecking ball finally begins its work, I am losing another piece of my childhood. So much of my childhood is gone. Now I know how my parents’ and grandparents’ generations felt when parts of their childhood disappeared.
The only constant in life is change. That doesn’t mean it changes for the better. Most of it does not. It just means things change. The Washington I grew up in is now a thing of the past. I am now a homebody. With the mall slated for demolition and no movie theaters in the county, there isn’t much else to do anymore. And that’s a shame.
Once again, goodbye, Washington Mall. You will be sorely missed. Thank you for all the great memories.
