LETTER: Who does Reschenthaler represent?
I recently was beaten to the punch by an excellent letter to the editor from John Ferencak, published May 29. The letter was written in response to a recent op-ed from U.S. Rep. Guy Reschenthaler and how the congressman doesn’t appear to represent his constituents but rather represents President Donald Trump and his “Big BAD Bill.” I wish to make a few other points in support of Mr. Ferencak’s letter.
I received a Trump-backed letter from the representative following a phone call I made to Mr. Reschenthaler. He boasts of his military service yet the Big BAD Bill he supports cuts deeply into the Veterans Administration by cutting thousands of VA jobs, which will impact veterans who depend on the VA for medical care. The representative says he supports Medicare and Medicaid, yet the Big BAD Bill will remove millions of the less fortunate people who need the programs for medical care. These cuts to Medicaid will also have a negative impact on our hospitals and staff.
Just who does Reschenthaler represent? It certainly can’t be the people of his district. It appears to me that Rep. Reschenthaler has turned his back on the people he was elected to represent. What the people need is an individual who will represent them.
Maybe a Town Hall is in order, but Reschenthaler won’t host one. Perhaps he is just another politician who talks the talk but won’t walk the walk with the people he claims to “represent.”
