LETTER: Face the facts
For those who still believe Donald Trump was celebrating the U.S. Army on Saturday, I must disabuse you.
Trump scheduled his parade on the 250th birthday of the Army, which also happened to be his own birthday (or perhaps more significantly, his own birthday). However, he conveniently overlooked the 250th birthday of the U.S. Navy, which is also celebrated this year. Logically, if a parade were warranted, the Navy should also have been included. Battalions of sailors and Marines could have marched as well, including driving amphibious craft and land-based assets on the parade route.
The problem with that is that the Navy’s 250th birthday is on Oct.13, which is not Trump’s birthday. Logically, if a joint parade were to be scheduled, it could have been ANY day in July, August or September. Possibly, even on July Fourth! (Combine a celebration of both services with that of the country?) The problem is that none of those possible dates are Trump’s birthday, and his parade would not take place on June 14.
It’s time to face it. It was a birthday parade. For Trump. They even sang “Happy Birthday.”
