LETTER: Democratic Party needs to rein in bad behavior
Last week, President Trump addressed a joint session of Congress, outlining what he had done in the first part of his term and listing future goals that he hoped to accomplish. It was lengthy, and at times, cumbersome, but one thing is sure. He certainly has been busy!
Regardless of party, I like to study the faces of the opposing party to see how many different ways they can look stoic and unsupportive. At first, I was amused, then dismayed. There was a shocking lack of class displayed on the Democratic side.
The tone was set by Sen. Al Green, shouting and belligerent, who had to be removed from the chamber by Speaker of the House Mike Johnson for ignoring his requests to restore order. Then about a dozen or so Democratic Party members voiced their opposition to Trump’s claims by holding up silly little statement paddles. It reminded me of a clique of junior high girls, ganging up on someone. It was reminiscent of the “me mad” behavior of Nancy Pilosi when she theatrically tore up Trump’s third State of the Union Address a few years ago as he was speaking. She certainly had a good camera angle.
The most abhorrent behavior of the Democratic side came when a little boy, struggling to combat cancer, received an honorary FBI membership. His little face absolutely glowed! The Democrats didn’t acknowledge him. A new level of callousness. Soulless.
It is getting so tiring to see news clips of Democratic senators and other party supporters spewing out torrid, hateful speeches against President Trump and his policies. Is screaming, fist pounding and shockingly foul language through threats the best way to get your ideas across?
There is mounting evidence that the Democratic Party is losing support from within. Moderate Democrats are going on Fox News to voice their concern that their far left is taking over the party. That’s a new one. West Virginia’s Sen. Joe Manchin abandoned ranks and changed his party affiliation from Democrat to Independent, probably to distance himself from this trend. I’ve been seeing Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman in the news more and more lately, the voice of reason, expressing his more moderate views in mainstream media. Will he be next?
As a registered Democrat, I am seeing my party heading toward an implosion. Conservative views and agendas got Trump elected to office, and good or bad, time will tell to see how he follows through. When will the Democratic Party take control of themselves and realize who or what they are representing? They need to find stable, respectable leadership, set concrete policies, and stop trying to be the loudest bully on the playground.
