LETTER: No more tax breaks for polluters
It’s bad enough that fossil fuel companies are poisoning our air and water. But on top of that, we’re expected to pay them to do it?
Pennsylvania’s Regional Clean Hydrogen and Sustainable Aviation Fuel credits give public dollars to the same fossil fuel companies that poison our air, contaminate our water, and leave behind abandoned wells and toxic sites in working-class communities. Meanwhile, other reliable solutions that could make our economies and communities stronger go underfunded.
The fossil fuel industry in Pennsylvania receives billions in corporate handouts and still fails to deliver economic growth to the regions they do business in. Eliminating these two tax credits could raise an additional $64 million in revenue for the state, which could instead be invested in public transit, home weatherization, and sustainable, good-paying jobs.
If we’re serious about protecting our communities, the first step is simple: Stop rewarding the polluters.
