LETTER: Stout column on the mark

1 min read

Gary Stout’s op-ed column published May 18 concerning President Donald Trump’s first 100 days in office should be read by everyone who voted for him.

It is right on the mark and was appropriately positioned next to a political cartoon depicting the Republican elephant in a motorboat telling lower-income people bobbing in the water that billionaires need their lifejackets.

More than 10 years ago, the ultra wealthy bought control of a majority of the Supreme Court. In 2010, the court decided in a 5-4 vote in Citizens United v. the Federal Election Commission that corporations have a First Amendment right to spend unlimited amounts of money to support or oppose candidates for elected office. The corporate “citizens” have been spending big time ever since.

So now we have a president who has been convicted of felony crimes working at the behest of of the ultra wealthy who want no less than complete control.
