LETTER: More misinformation
Now that the federal government is embroiled in a shutdown, once again we are witness to more of Donald Trump and his ilk’s use of misinformation, disinformation and corruption of facts to deceive the public.
The current deception consists of an intentional lie that the Democrats are pushing for free health care for illegal immigrants and are holding off a shutdown settlement over the issue. When fairly researched and reported by nonpartisan news agencies, the true facts surface proving that the perpetrators of another big lie live in the Trump Administration and on the right side of the aisle in Congress.
Undocumented immigrants remain ineligible for federally funded health insurance and are only able to receive emergency Medicaid treatment according to longstanding laws. Noncitizen immigrants, who have entered the country legally and are accounted for by the federal government, are eligible for government-supported health care. Further, these lawful people are eligible to participate in health insurance through the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) at the going rate within the area they are living. These individuals are also eligible to gainfully work, and pay employment taxes and are not on public assistance. Therefore, they can buy whatever health care is needed.
To drive the issue home, Sen. Chuck Schumer made it totally clear that not a single federal dollar goes to providing health insurance for undocumented immigrants. None. Still, the deceptive and dishonest bellowing goes on unabated from the Republicans and Trump himself.
Those who choose to deny and ignore the smokescreen cannot be enlightened to the truth and the clear facts on the matter.
