LETTER: Nonviolence the way to go
I adopted a nonviolent lifestyle years ago. I’m convinced nonviolence is the only practice that can make a difference in this nation. I cringe when I hear some brag about the collection of guns they own. They don’t realize violence is the weapon of choice for the weak. Nonviolence is the weapon of the strong.
Every positive change during our history came through nonviolent methods. These methods led to the labor movement that improved workers’ lives. Nonviolence helped women to gain the right to vote and later ended segregation. African-Americans were granted the right to vote using the same methods.
The peace movement also achieved success using the practice Dr. Martin Luther King and Thomas Merton encouraged. An eye for an eye only ends up making the whole world blind. Study the history of nonviolence and adopt the philosophy. Peace be with you all.
