Check out the latest South Hills Living Magazine Launches Instagram Feed
Here at Observer Publishing Company – which, some aren’t aware, publishes South Hills Living Magazine as well as The Almanac – we are always looking for new ways to connect with our readers. When it comes to our niche publications, there is not a one size fits all approach. For example, the readers in the South Hills are different than our readers in Greene County or the Mon Valley – different interests, different concerns, and a different demographic. What works for one publication, more than likely, may not work for another.
Ergo, as writers and editors, we must be familiar with each audience in order to plan and execute the best content possible for each publication. And in 2018, a glossy magazine every other month in the South Hills just doesn’t seem like enough. So, in addition to the online content, we’ve started an Instagram feed just for this magazine. Follow @SouthHillsLiving on Instagram, and you’ll get to see behind the scenes photos, sneak peeks of upcoming issues, beautiful photos of the South Hills and more.
The very first post on that Instagram feed was the recipe you’ll find on page 30, sweet soy-glazed salmon with Asian cucumber salad from Gather Restaurant at the Crowne Plaza Pittsburgh South Hotel in Upper St. Clair.
Our cover story on page 14 in this issue is pretty exciting, too. Francine Segan, a celebrity chef and food historian, talks about her unique trade and provides some recipes from her cookbook, “Pasta Modern: New & Inspired Recipes from Italy.” Segan’s local tie is that she’s coming to town in December for Town Hall South, which is kicking off its 50th season on Oct. 2 with Pulitzer Prize-winning author Jon Meacham.
Finally, if you’re looking for something new and different to try, I recommend turning to page 28 for Harry’s Adventures. He went ax throwing at LumberjAxes Axe Throwing Pittsburgh. It’s an out of the box way to spend a Saturday, bachelor party or just a fun night out. And, while Harry went to Millvale to do it, a location is coming to Mt. Lebanon this month.
