With winter months upon us, many families are turning on their natural gas appliances for the first time and Columbia Gas employees are out working hard to ensure the safety and reliability of natural gas delivery to fuel those appliances.

“Columbia Gas employees service our communities – they check meters, turn on service, conduct safety checks and maintain our pipelines every day, but they are also serving our communities in different ways – through employee volunteerism, monetary donations and non-profit partnerships,” said Columbia Gas of Pennsylvania President Mike Huwar.

As a Company, Columbia Gas has partnered with and contributed to over 200 non-profit organizations throughout the utility’s 26 county service territory*. In the southwestern Pennsylvania area, Columbia Gas employees have contributed donations and time to many non-profits, including a few of the following:

  • The Washington County United Way administers the Company’s employee United Way Campaign. This year, Columbia Gas employees donated over $166,000 of their own income to local charities as part of the Campaign.
  • A dozen local Columbia Gas employees volunteered with non-profit Rebuilding Together Pittsburgh to help rehabilitate a local customer’s home in the City of Washington.
  • Washington County based employees organized a fundraising campaign for the Olivia Scott Foundation. The Company encouraged their fundraising efforts with an additional $3,000 donation.
  • Thirty Columbia Gas employees volunteered with non-profit, the Salvation Army and WTAE’s Project Bundle-Up to help children in-need shop for warm winter outerwear.
  • Columbia Gas employees volunteered with the City of Washington based non-profit, Main Street Farmers Market encouraging environmental sustainability and the use of fresh produce in our communities.

“We are humbled by our employees’ commitment to not only the safety, but the wellbeing of families in our local neighborhoods,” said Huwar. “Our employees make Columbia Gas a great corporate citizen.”
