2017 Best of the Best Italian Restaurants in Washington and Greene Counties

6 min read

Nothing beats a hearty plate of homemade spaghetti and meatballs, and it just so happens that our region’s rich history produces plenty of it.

Many of our local Italian restaurants have been staples in their communities for decades. And if you don’t find their pastas appealing, there’s plenty of other tantalizing items on the menu.

But don’t take our word for it.

In 2017, the Observer-Reporter introduced the Best of the Best Awards to celebrate the best businesses, organizations, people and more that the residents of Washington and Greene counties thought deserved the distinction of best in their respective category.

The response from the community and nominees was overwhelming. More than 400,000 votes were captured from 11,000 unique voters, validating the vitality of the communities that comprise the Observer-Reporter’s coverage area.

One of our most popular categories was best Italian. Here’s what our readers came up with.

Angelo’s Restaurant

Angelo’s

For over 70 years, three generations have run this family-owned establishment serving Italian fare & wines.

Hills Restaurant

Well known in region for their homemade raviolis, Hills offers an extensive menu that will satisfy the whole family.

Napoli Restaurant and Lounge

It started as a pizza shop. More than 25 years later, this family-owned establishment offers a complete Italian menu.

Peppino’s Restaurant and Bar

Peppino’s featured a variety of homemade Italian cuisines and served the Washington area for more than 50 years before closing in November.

Upper Crust

The Upper Crust Italian Bistro was a family-owned restaurant in the heart of downtown Washington. The Upper Crust is now closed, but you can still find your favorites at The Washington Brewing Company, a full service Italian restaurant co-owned by the owners of the Upper Crust.
