Taylor Horr’s sacrifice fly with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning scored pinch-runner Faith Cross with the winning run in a 3-2 victory over Monessen in a Section 2-A game.

Winning pitcher Bailey Bennington struck out 13 and hit a double for the Pioneers (1-0, 2-0). Alyssa Raber went 3-for-4 with a double and RBI. Madison Raber also doubled.

Shelby Minardi took the loss for Monessen (0-1, 2-1).

• Winning pitcher Cassie Weiss doubled, while McGuffey took advantage of eight Waynesburg errors in an 8-4 Section 2-AA win over the Raiders.

Sammie Weiss and Sarah Kleinhans also doubled for McGuffey (1-0, 1-0).

Hannah Gibbons had three hits, including a double, for Waynesburgh (0-1, 2-2), while Jordan Moore took the loss.

• Taylor Myers went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI to lead Ringgold past Brownsville 12-4 in a non-section game. Brennah Martik knocked in two runs for the Rams (1-0).

Tiffany Markovitch tripled and Katie Whye and Miranda Nichols each had a double for Brownsville (3-3). Miranda Arison struck out six.

• Home runs by Olivia Lorusso and Kirsten Rush helped Canon-McMillan take a 12-2, five-inning victory from Brashear in a Section 4-AAAA game.

Rush hit a three-run homer and drove in four runs in the game, and Lorusso had a solo shot. Linda Rush went 2-for-3 with three RBI for CM (1-0, 1-0).

Anna Breucken doubled for Brashear (0-1, 0-1).

• Frazier built an 8-1 lead, then held off a Jefferson-Morgan comeback to take an 8-4 victory in a Section 2-A game.

Maddie Dupont hit a three-run home run for the Rockets (0-1, 1-1) in the bottom of the seventh inning. Morgan Gamble and Camryn Dugan each had a double.

Alexas Livingstone doubled and Andrea Lash struck out six for Frazier (1-0, 2-0).

• California routed Mapletown, 15-0, in a three-inning Section 2-A game, the first of the season for both teams.

Elle Scales went 3-for-3 with a double and Rachel Wilkinson went 2-for-3 and drove in two runs for Cal. Tina Puhnaty struck out five and did not allow a hit.

• Winning pitcher Erica Burns went 4-for-4 with a double, triple and RBI to lead Carmichaels past Serra, 5-2, in a Section 2-A game.

Burns struck out nine and walked one for the Mikes (1-0, 5-1). Caroline Cree and Emma Lowry each had a double.

Haley Havrilla doubled and Amy McNeil tripled for Serra (0-1, 1-1).

Ray McHugh hit a two-run double and Thomas Jefferson got the winning run with a bases loaded walk in a four-run seventh to beat Canon-McMillan, 13-12, in a non-section game.

Mike Campana homered for TJ (2-2).

Justin Davey went 5-for-5 with two doubles and six RBI for the Big Macs (1-3). Eric Birshok went 3-for-3.

• California scored in each of the five innings to take a 16-6 victory from Uniontown in a non-section game. Josh Luko had a double and three RBI for Cal (4-2). Jacob Columbus doubled and Louden Conti scored four runs.

• Michael Blasinsky, Tommy Shoaf, Grant Prodan and winning pitcher Brandon Lawless all doubled as Carmichaels defeated Beth-Center, 16-7, in a non-section game.

The Mikes (1-0) scored all 16 of their runs in the first four innings.

Seth Nvizda doubled and tripled, while Matt Riggle doubled, and C.J. Novak tripled for the Bulldogs (0-1).

The Washington Wild Things will hold an open tryout at Consol Energy Park Saturday, April 27. To be eligible to play in the Frontier League for the 2013 season, players must not turn 27 years of age before Jan. 1, 2013.

Interested players are encouraged to preregister. Players interested in participating can send a completed registration form and a check for $40 to The Wild Things. The tryout begins at 8 a.m. The Wild Things will accept registrations on the day of the tryout beginning at 7:30 a.m.

Players participating in the tryout must wear turf shoes or molded cleats. No metal cleats will be allowed.
