Colleges: Thomas More sweeps W&J in baseball
Cody Makin homered in each game to lead Thomas More to a doubleheader sweep of Washington & Jefferson Tuesday in Presidents’ Athletic Conference baseball action, 7-6, 5-0.
Eddie Nogay took the loss in relief for the Presidents (12-5. 16-9), dropping his first collegiate decision against 16 wins.
Travis Miller went 4-for-4 in the opener, driving in the winning run in the bottom of the six for Thomas More (10-4, 19-7).
David Etscheid threw six shutout innings in the nightcap to pick up the win. Tyler Dean took the loss.
• Matt Peters went 6-for-7 with a double and triple, scoring three runs and driving in three as California pounded Alderson-Broaddus, 22-4, in a non-conference game.
Kyle Petty had four hits, including a three-run homer, and scored three runs, while Carmichaels graduate Chuck Gasti added three hits, including a homer and scored three runs for the Vulcans (25-10). California had 26 hits in the game.
Eric Francis picked up the win, while Adam Dobson took the loss for Alderson-Broaddus (16-19).
• Waynesburg University pulled a pair of upsets in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference during Tuesday’s road trip to Thiel. The Yellow Jackets moved up to fifth in the conference standings by sweeping the Tomcats by the final scores of 6-4 in Game 1 and 3-2 in Game 2.
Waynesburg (13-13, 6-8) has now won four of its last five games, all in the PAC. Thiel (17-12, 10-4) had suffered just two PAC losses all season coming into Wednesday’s twin-bill.
