Noszka resigns as THS basketball coach
Stan Noszka’s tenure as the Trinity boys basketball coach lasted just one season as the longtime assistant submitted his letter of resignation Monday.
Noszka cited the time commitment required to run a high school basketball program as the primary reason why he stepped down.
“The biggest thing for me is that if you’re going to coach high school basketball, it requires a big time commitment,” Noszka said. “I’m not sure I can do that at this stage in my life. If you’re going to do a good job, it’s not a part-time job.”
Noszka is a retired CPA, but still does consulting work. He said that Monday, Tax Day, actually wrapped up his busiest season.
Noszka, a 1962 graduate of Central Catholic, replaced Joe Dunn last September, taking over for his good friend and former boss after spending 11 seasons as an assistant.
He inherited a lineup with five returning starters – including four seniors, Christian Koroly, Jared Deep, Corey Hunsberger and Berton Miller – but the Hillers went just 5-9 in Section 4-AAAA and 11-11 overall.
Trinity averaged 60.1 points per game, tops in the section, but seven of their losses were by single digits.
Noszka didn’t rule out returning to coaching, albeit in something similar to his former role.
“I love coaching,” Noszka said. “I’ve been coaching for almost 40 years now, and this could be the first season that I haven’t coached if I don’t find anything else.
“If something comes up and my situation and my feelings change, I’d be more than interested. But right now I need to take a break and spend a little more time with my wife.”
