Softball: Canon-McMillan stops Mt. Lebanon

Taylor Bruno and Tara Fowler had two hits apiece to lead the Canon-McMillan softball team to a 7-1 victory at Mt. Lebanon in Section 4-AAAA. Alayna Astuto earned the pitching win while striking out five and walking none. Bruno had three RBI and Linda Rush added a double for the Big Macs, who improved to 7-0, 7-1.

• Chartiers-Houston remained undefeated with a 17-0 victory over host Washington in Section 2-AA.

C-H (8-0, 11-0) took control of the game with an eight-run second inning, and pitcher Kayla Briggs threw a one-hitter. Toni Spossey had a double and scored three runs to lead the Bucs’ offense. Haley Sutton and Casey Craig also doubled.

Jamie Moore had a single in the fourth inning for the lone hit for Washington (2-5, 2-5).

• Carmichaels scored four runs in the top of the eighth to take a 6-3 victory from Jefferson-Morgan in a Section 2-A game.

Caroline Cree had a two-run double in the fourth for the Mikes (8-0, 12-1). J-M pitchers walked in two runs with the bases loaded in the eighth and two more scored on errors. Erica Burns struck out 10.

Jessica Taylor had an RBI single in the first for the Rockets (3-6, 5-6).

• Bre Lonick doubled and drove in three runs to help Burgettstown to an 11-0 victory over Cornell in a five-inning Section 1-AA game.

Sami Scopel went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI for the Blue Devils (7-0, 8-2). Lizzie Strain went 3-for-3 with a double and two RBI, Caley Ritts doubled and singled and Morgan Ellek doubled. Kate Tarr struck out nine and allowed two hits.

Cornell is 2-8 overall and in section.

• In a game that saw a combined 25 runs and 33 hits, Waynesburg defeated Bentworth, 15-10, in a Section 2-AA game.

Hannah Gibbons went 4-for-4 with two doubles and four RBI for the Raiders (4-4, 6-6). Jordan Moore doubled with three RBI, Emily Snee doubled and singled and Kaylee Boosel went 3-for-5 with a double.

Morgan Vickless had two doubles for Bentworth (5-3, 6-3). Madison Alauzen and Natalie Hudak also doubled.

• Moriah McGuier fired a no-hitter with eight strikeouts and one walk as McGuffey defeated Fort Cherry, 14-0, in a six-inning Section 2-AA game.

Sammie Weiss had four hits, including a triple and double, and five RBI, while Sarah Kleinhans and Stacy Martin both doubled for the Highlanders (8-1, 8-1).

Rachel Sturgeon took the loss for Fort Cherry (0-9, 0-11).

• Mikayla Watson had two hits, including a double, and drove in four runs, as unbeaten Trinity needed just three innings to rout Carrick, 15-0, in a Section 2-AAA game.

Ashley Humphries added a double, while Katelyn Campbell earned the win for the Hillers (8-0, 8-0).

Natalie Sinclair doubled for Carrick (0-6, 0-6), while Karen Denk took the loss.

• Winning pitcher Bailey Bennington had three hits, including a double, as West Greene topped California, 7-0, in a Section 2-A game.

Bennington struck out 10, while Taylor Horr added a double for the Pioneers (5-3, 8-3).

Tina Puhnaty took the loss for California (1-7, 2-8).

• Lindsay McKnight doubled and homered, driving in six runs, as Peters Township defeated Brashear, 11-3, in a Section 4-AAAA game.

Winning pitcher Kellyn Perich struck out six and also tripled for the Indians (6-2, 12-2), while Tori Weida also doubled.

Kelly Flaherty had two doubles for Brashear (2-6, 2-6).
