Baseball: Fisher, California blank West Greene

Brian Fisher pitched a two-hit shutout, and Ronnie Baron and Robbie DeFranco each drove in three runs, as California blanked visiting West Greene 15-0 Tuesday in Section 1-A.

The win moved Cal (4-2, 10-4) to within a half-game of second-place Jefferson-Morgan in the section.

Fisher struck out six and walked one. Baron led the Trojans at the plate by going 2-for-3 with a double and triple. Mike Luketich also doubled.

West Greene is 0-5, 1-8.

• Kevin Ridgley had a double and Taylor Kennison a triple during Mapletown’s 16-10 win over Clairton in a non-section game. Winning pitcher Colby Kincell struck out four and walked one. Mapletown improved to 2-7.

• Chris Keith went 3-for-3 with two runs scored and also picked up the save after getting the final five outs of McGuffey’s 7-5 win over Fort Cherry. Brett Cox added a pair of infield singles for McGuffey, which improved to 2-8.

Koltan Kobrys had a double and Kyle Whitberger added a triple for the Rangers, who dropped to 5-6. Preston Semple was the winning pitcher for McGuffey after pitching 5 1/3 innings, striking out two and walking three.
