NEW YORK (AP) – Carlos Corporan homered among his four hits and drove in four runs, Brandon Barnes three hits and three RBIs, and the Houston Astros fit comfortably into the role of a slugging American League squad Monday night in a 9-1 romp over the New York Yankees.

Former Washington Wild Things pitcher Vidal Nuno made his major-league debut for the Yankees, throwing three scoreless innings of relief. He gave up four hits and struck out two. Nuno made six starts for the Wild Things in 2011 and has gone from the independent Frontier League to the majors in less than two years. He is the first former Wild Things player to appear in a major league game.

In their first game in the Bronx as an AL team, the Astros peppered Yankees starter Andy Pettitte for 10 hits and seven runs, both season highs for the lefty. Barnes and Corporan had two-run doubles and Barnes added an RBI single and a double. Barnes and Corporan each set career highs for hits and RBI.
