Bucs send Sanchez to minors

1 min read

MILWAUKEE – The Pittsburgh Pirates have designated left-hander Jonathan Sanchez for assignment.

Sanchez, 30, appeared in five games for the Pirates this season, and went 0-3 with an 11.85 ERA. He worked 2 1/3 innings Monday against the Brewers and allowed two runs on four hits, including two home runs.

He also was suspended six games by Major League Baseball last week for hitting Allen Craig of the Cardinals with a pitch. That suspension is pending appeal.

The Pirates signed the former Giants and Royals starter to a minor league deal in the offseason.

Pittsburgh called up right-hander Bryan Morris from Triple-A Indianapolis, where he allowed one run in 6 1/3 innings. Morris appeared in one game for the Pirates this season.
