No solution for Crushers’ Middendorf

Dave Middendorf tossed a complete-game shutout, allowing four hits and zero walks while striking out four to help Lake Erie to a 5-0 victory over the visiting Washington Wild Things in Frontier League action Thursday night.

The complete-game shutout was the second in as many starts for Middendorf, who allowed five hits and struck out five during a 1-0 win over River City July 25.

Stewart Ijames had two hits, including a double, and Mark Samuelson and A.J. Nunziato had one apiece for Washington (30-35), which was shut out for the seventh time all season.

Lake Erie (35-30) has a chance to sweep the series with a victory tonight.

Middendorf threw 104 pitches, 70 of them for strikes. Emmanuel Quiles had two RBI for Lake Erie, while Andrew Davis and Russell Moldenhauer added one apiece.
