Sprained foot sidelines Te’o
The Chargers say linebacker Manti Te’o has a sprained foot and will sit out this week, including an exhibition game at Chicago Thursday night.
The Chargers say the rookie was diagnosed with the injury after Thursday night’s 31-10 loss to the Seattle Seahawks.
Te’o was in a walking boot at Saturday morning’s practice.
Rookie head coach Mike McCoy refused to say how Te’o was injured. McCoy had said Friday that no serious injuries were reported from the game and that Te’o was “off to a good start.”
Blackmon, Babin called in after exchange: Jacksonville Jaguars coach Gus Bradley had receiver Justin Blackmon and defensive end Jason Babin in his office Saturday, hours after the two got into it on the sideline during the team’s preseason opener.
Bradley was pleased with what he heard, too.
The coach says the tiff was “a lot smaller than what I initially thought.”
Bengals WR in cast: Bengals receiver Andrew Hawkins will wear a cast for 10 days to try to heal his sprained left ankle, making it doubtful he’ll be ready for the season opener.
Coach Marvin Lewis said Hawkins will be evaluated again when the cast is removed and the club will have a better idea how long he’ll be sidelined.
“It allows the opportunity to make sure we don’t inadvertently injure it more,” Lewis said. “It gives it a chance to settle down and begin to mend. He’s very optimistic that he’ll be ready to go at some point here, so we’ll see.
“At least for the next 10 days or so he’s going to be in this cast. Then we’ll have a little better update after that.”
