Miscues cost Wild Things
WASHINGTON – Mike Torres had an RBI single with the bases loaded in the top of the 11th inning to lift Windy City to a 5-4 victory Monday night over the Washington Wild Things in a Frontier League game at Consol Energy Park.
Windy City (36-39) took advantage of four Washington (35-39) errors to score three unearned runs in the game, as the Things wasted a fine pitching effort by Dayne Quist. Quist, making his second start for Washington, went eight innings, allowing just two runs while striking out five.
Windy City scored two unearned runs in the top of the ninth to tie the game on just one hit with the help of three Washington errors and a catcher’s interference call.
Washington got a home run earlier in the game from first baseman Mark Samuelson, his eighth of the season.
Three Windy City relievers combined for five shutout innings, allowing just three hits.
