Wild Things fall to River City

2 min read

O’FALLON, Mo. – River City produced too much offense for the Wild Things to handle Saturday night. The result was an 11-2 loss to the Rascals.

River City pounded out 14 hits, built a 9-1 lead after four innings and scored in all but three innings. Phil Wunderlich and Danny Canela combined to go 5-for-8 and scored five runs for the Rascals. Each hit a home run. Jake Atwell drove in three runs and Will Block went 2-for-5 and drove in two runs.

The Wild Things’ C.J. Beatty hit his 100th base hit of the season when he doubled in the first inning, but Washington was not able to capitalize on Beatty’s career record hit.

Down by six runs, Jovan Rosa added his 36th RBI to the season’s statistics when he drove in Stewart Ijames to get Washington on the board in the fourth inning.

However, the Rascals got the run back in the bottom of the inning when Wunderlich smacked a solo shot over the fence. Canela also had a solo home run in the seventh inning.

In the eighth inning, Washington added a run when Beatty scored on a Mark Samuelson sacrifice fly, chasing starter Cory Caruso from the mound. Caruso held the Washington bats in check throughout the game, allowing only two runs on six hits in 7 2/3 innings.

Jhonny Montoya took the loss for Washington.
