Duquesne outguns UMBC, 94-88

PITTSBURGH (AP) – Tra’Vaughn White scored 22 points and fellow guard Derrick Colter added 20 and seven assists as Duquesne defeated Maryland-Baltimore County 94-88 Wednesday night at the Palumbo Center.

The Dukes (3-3) shot a blazing 59.6 percent, including 6 of 15 from 3-point range for 40 percent. Still, they needed to take advantage of 41 attempts from the free-throw line, making 26, to counter good shooting by UMBC.

The Retrievers (3-5) shot 50.8 percent, including half of their 22 3-point attempts. They were 17 of 20 from the line.

A 13-2 run put the Dukes up 59-39 at 15:40 of the second half. The Retrievers didn’t get closer than seven after that.

Jerry Jones added 14 points and Dominique McKoy 13 for the Dukes, whose three wins have come at home.

Chase Plummer led the Retrievers with 27 points with Rodney Elliott adding 18 and Malik Garner 12.
