1 min read

Shain Stoner and Gary Lee combined to help the Wild Things win back-to-back games for only the third time since the beginning of July, as Washington topped the Normal CornBelters, 3-2, in front of 1,484 at Consol Energy Park Tuesday night.

Washington improved to 30-33 with only its second series win of the month. The Wild Things begin a three-game set at Lake Erie tonight.

Stoner had two extra-base hits: a double in the fourth inning and a triple in the seventh. Lee pitched 6 2/3 innings and allowed no earned runs, five hits and one walk while striking out three.

Matt Phillips picked up the win despite allowing a run on two walks in 1/3 of an inning.

C.J. Beatty singled home Stewart Ijames in the third. A.J. Nunziato’s double scored Stoner in the seventh, and Nunziato later scored on a sacrifice fly.

Normal fell to 34-29 and trails Gateway (38-24) and Schaumburg (35-28) in the West Division.
