Cal U. soccer coach retiring
After guiding the California University men’s soccer program for nearly three decades, head coach Dennis Laskey will retire.
Laskey posted a 258-223-41 overall record and a .534 winning percentage in 27 seasons as head coach of the Vulcans. The program’s inaugural head coach in 1984, he ranks second in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference history and is tied for 26th in NCAA Division II history in career victories.
Laskey led the Vulcans to the PSAC Tournament eight times in the last 11 seasons, highlighted by the program’s first championship in 2008. He previously guided Cal to the championship game of the league tournament four times in a six-year span with a program-best 14 victories in 2000 and 2005. The Vulcans also have made three appearances in the NCAA Tournament (2004, 2008, 2011) under Laskey.
Laskey also was instrumental in the formation of the Cal women’s soccer program. From the span of 1991-2001, he was the head coach of both the men’s and women’s teams. Laskey still holds the school record in women’s soccer with 89 career victories, highlighted by a pair of 12-win campaigns (1992, 1994), which was the school record until 2009.
