NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Washington High School graduate Jocelyn Floyd was voted the Atlantic 10 Conference Defensive Player of the Year on Thursday in a vote conducted by the league’s 16 head coaches.

A 5-8 senior guard, Floyd leads all NCAA Division I players with 133 steals, an average of 5.1 per game. Her steals total eclipsed the school-record 121 she had last season – when she ranked sixth in the NCAA in steals per game – and are the most by an Atlantic 10 player since 1988.

A three-year starter for the Dukes (11-3, 22-6), Floyd also leads the team in rebounding at 6.8 per game.

Duquesne, the No. 5 seed, opens Atlantic 10 Tourmanent play against No. 12 seed Virginia Commonwealth at 2:30 p.m. today.
