High school baseball roundup: C-H scores in 7th to win opener

ake Jones’ single in the bottom of the seventh inning scored Alec Ferrari from third base and gave Chartiers-Houston a 6-5 season-opening victory over Germantown in a game played at Myrtle Beach, S.C.

C-H forged a 5-1 lead after three innings, but Germantown rallied and tied the score at 5-5 with a run in the top of the seventh. The Bucs then put runners on second and third, setting up Jones’ game-winning hit. Jones also doubled, as did teammate Tyler Day.

Troy Whitfield was the winning pitcher with 2 1/3 innings of relief.

• Michael Fetchett threw a one-hitter as South Fayette opened its season with a 5-1 win over Independence, Tenn., at Chattanooga, Tenn.
