Softball: Cal wins PSAC tourney opener

1 min read

Behind a career-high 14 strikeouts by freshman pitcher Alex Sagl, California defeated Mansfield, 6-2, Wednesday in the first round of the PSAC tournament in Quakertown.

California (33-2) will play Bloomsburg today at 1 p.m.

Sagl (17-1) won her 10th consecutive start by throwing a five-hitter and benefitting from the Vulcans’ trio of two-run innings.

Brenna Morris hit a two-run homer, her ninth of the season, in the third inning to give Cal a 4-0 lead. The Vulcans padded the advantage to 6-1 in the sixth on Erica Vallecorsa’s two-run single.
