PSAC baseball: Cal in 3-way title for West Division title

1 min read

California split a doubleheader with IUP, winning the opener 4-3 in eight innings Saturday before dropping the nightcap 9-2, at Consol Energy Park.

The split left Cal (33-16 overall) in a three-way tie for the PSAC West Division championship with Gannon and Mercyhurst. Cal won the tiebreaker, giving the Vulcans the West’s top seed in the PSAC tournament that begins Wednesday at Point Stadium in Johnstown. Cal will play West Chester (21-24-1), the East Division’s fourth-place team, in the first round.

The Vulcans won the opener on a bases-loaded walk in the eighth. Pitcher Kyle Thomas improved his record to 5-0 with two scoreless innings of relief.
