Streak no more for Mapletown softball
Mapletown snapped a 32-game losing streak that spanned two seasons with an 11-9 victory over Geibel in a non-section game.
Aliquippa holds the longest losing streak in the WPIAL at 127 in a row. The Quips have not won a game since 2005.
Cassie Barber hit a two-run home run and the Maples (1-16) had 13 hits spread through the lineup. Jordan Adams went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored.
Geibel, an independent team, fell to 2-5.
• Reagan Rush, Kirsten Stoneking, Morgan Simkovic and Jessica Taylor had two hits apiece to lead Jefferson-Morgan to a 9-1 victory over Washington in a non-section game. Camryn Dugan added a double for the Rockets, who improved to 12-7 after winning their seventh consecutive game. Maddie Ludrosky was the winning pitcher.
Taylor Ellis (five walks, three strikeouts) took the loss for Washington (3-10).
• C.C. Wagner hit a three-run homer and four players added doubles during the McGuffey softball team’s 13-0 win at Carrick in a five-inning non-section game. Cassie Weiss earned the pitching win and struck out 10. Meghan Schultz, Sarah Kleinhans, Chelsea Travis and Weiss all doubled for the Highlanders, who improved to 12-5.
• Olivia Lorusso had two triples and drove in four runs to power Canon-McMillan to an 11-0 victory over Ringgold in a six-inning non-section game.
Giorgiana Zeremenko went 3-for-4 with two RBI for CM (16-1) and Linda Rush went 4-for-4 and scored twice. Abby McCartney had a triple and two singles.
Ringgold fell to 8-8.
