Cal splits, is eliminated from PSAC baseball tournament

1 min read

California University’s run in the PSAC baseball tournament ended Friday when the Vulcans split two games at Point Stadium in Johnstown.

California opened Friday’s action with a 12-7 victory over Kutztown in an elimination game, but the Vulcans lost to East Stroudsburg, 7-4, during the afternoon.

PSAC West Division Player of the Year Kyle Petty went 4-for-5 with a three-run homer and four RBI to lead Cal (35-18) against Kuztown. Ben Carson was 3-for-5 and drove in three runs, and winning pitcher GJ Senchak pitched eight strong innings.

Against East Stroudsburg (32-16), Cal trailed 4-3 in the sixth inning when the Warriors scored three times to give winning pitcher Justin Smith some margin for error. Smith pitched eight innings, allowing eight hits and no walks.

Cal pulled to within 4-3 when Petty hit a two-run triple in the sixth and later scored. Carson tripled and scored to draw Cal to within 7-4 in the eighth, but that was as close as the Vulcans could get.
