College softball: Cal splits pair at regional

1 min read

California University split a pair of games Saturday in the NCAA Division II regional at Lilley Field.

California began the day with a 4-3 loss to West Chester, but rebounded for a 9-1 victory over Lock Haven in an elimination game.

The Vulcans (38-5) will play a rematch against West Chester today at 1 p.m. Cal must win back-to-back games against the Golden Rams to advance to the Super Regionals. West Chester used two home runs in the second inning to take a 3-2 lead, then scored a run in the seventh and held off a late rally by Cal. The Vulcans left the potential tying run on third base in the seventh inning.

Against Lock Haven, Lindsay Reicoff, Breanna Morris and Eric Vallecorsa each homered, and winning pitcher Alex Sagl tossed a five-hitter. Sagl did not walk a batter. Shelby Lia went 3-for-3 for Cal with two doubles.
