Sowers, Kalsey qualify for D-III Track & Field Championships
Two Waynesburg University athletes plus a Waynesburg native who is competing for Westminster College have qualified for the NCAA Division III Track & Field Championships that begin Thursday in LaCrosse, Wisc.
Waynesburg’s Megan Sowers, a Lone Pine native and Beth-Center High School graduate, has qualified in the women’s javelin, and Byrum Louco will compete in the men’s 400-meter hurdles. Also headed to the national championships will be Westminster’s Marisa Kalsey, who will compete in the pole vault.
Sowers, a junior, will attempt to earn her second All-American trophy after finishing in fourth place last year. Louco, a sophomore, also is returning to the national meet after finishing in 16th place last year.
A former PIAA champion, Kalsey broke Westminster’s indoor record by clearing 12-11 ½ at the Indoor Nationals. She ranks fourth in the country in the pole vault outdoors with a school record 13-0 ¼ set at the Slippery Rock Last Chance Qualifier earlier this month.
