Wild Things sweep Rockford

LOVES PARK, Ill. – The Washington Wild Things finished a sweep of Rockford with an 8-3 victory at Aviator Stadium Thursday night.

Washington, which opens its home season tonight against Southern Illinois at Consol Energy Park, broke the game open with three runs in the fifth inning. The big hit was a two-run single by Shain Stoner that gave Washington a 4-2 lead.

The Wild Things added two runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh to stretch the lead to 8-3.

C.J. Beatty and Jovan Rosa each had two hits and scored two runs. Beatty had a solo home run in the fourth inning to tie the game, 1-1.

Starter Shawn Smith had nine strikeouts and the Wild Things pitchers had 15 for the game.
