Gillaspie’s big game carries Monessen

MONESSEN – Clintell Gillaspie ran for 274 yards on 18 carries and scored four touchdowns Friday night to lead Monessen to a 37-14 victory over West Shamokin in the first round of the Class A playoffs.

Monessen (9-1) advances to play Neshannock in next weekend’s quarterfinals.

Gillaspie scored on runs of 63, 53 and 18 yards, and also hauled in a 15-yard scoring pass from Noah Rullo, the latter putting the Greyhounds ahead 30-14 in the fourth quarter.

Monessen forged an 18-0 lead in the first quarter on two Giaaspie TD runs and a 21-yard scoring run by Javon brown.

West Shamokin, which was playing in its first WPIAL playoff game, pulled to within 18-7 at halftime and 24-14 after three quarters.
