Robert Morris edges Cal in exhibition
CORAOPOLIS – Robert Morris scored the game’s final seven points and defeated California 64-58 Monday night in a men’s college basketball exhibition game at the Sewell Center.
California, which led for more than half the game, took a 58-57 lead on a three-point field goal by Tynell Fortune with 2:50 remaining, but the Vulcans were held scoreless the rest of the way.
Robert Morris took the lead for good on two free throws by Jeremiah Worthem with 2:24 left, and Anthony Myers-Pate’s basket made it 61-58 with a basketball with 34 seconds remaining. Cal’s Arman Marks missed a three-pointer with 17 seconds to go that would have tied the score.
Sophomore guard Jake Jacubec led Cal with 13 points and Marks followed with 10.
The Vulcans started fast, forging a 14-5 lead. The score was tied, 28-28, at halftime.
Desjuan Newton and Kavon Stewart scored 10 points each for Robert Morris.
California will play a second exhibition game against a Division I opponent Saturday at Virginia Commonwealth.
