Albert Gallatin vs. Trinity

Collin Smith and Branden Dice each ran for two touchdowns and passed the 100-yard rushing mark to power Albert Gallatin to a 28-14 victory over Trinity in a Class AAA Big Nine Conference game Friday night at AG.

Smith gained 186 yards on 25 carries and scored on touchdown runs of 10 and four yards for the Colonials (1-1, 2-1). Dice gained 112 yards on 13 carries and scored on runs of 13 and 49 yards.

Albert Gallatin’s defense was solid, holding Trinity to 202 total yards, 106 passing and 96 rushing.

Ryan Yocca led Trinity (0-2, 0-3) with 52 yards on nine carries and Forrest Cullings was 4-for-13 for 106 yards and no interceptions. He also scored on a two-yard run with 34 seconds to play.

Dice and Smith scored three consecutive touchdowns for Albert Gallatin to break open a close game in the second half.

The Colonials held an early 7-0 lead on Smith’s 10-yard run but Trinity scored in the third quarter on a 60-yard pass from Cullings to Mitch Kendra made it 7-6 with 7:03 left in the third quarter. The extra-point attempt by Sam Trapuzzano was wide.

Albert Gallatin had opportunities to score more than the one touchdown it did get in the first half, but still held a 7-0 lead.

The Colonials took the 7-0 lead when Collin Smith broke free for a 10-yard run into the end zone. Matt Rush kicked the extra point with 7:41 left in the half.

Albert Gallatin was deep in Trinity territory on two other occasions but was stopped on fourth-down plays.

In the third quarter, Dice went over from 13 yards out to give AG a 14-6 lead, then Smith made it 14-6 scored from four yards to make it 21-6. Dice’s 49-yard run capped the AG run.
