Soccer: Beth-Center boys stay unbeaten in 4-A

Beth-Center took sole possession of first place in Section 4-A boys soccer Tuesday with a 3-0 victory over visiting Monessen.

Beth-Center took a 1-0 first-half lead, then secured the victory with two second-half goals. Aaron Ankney, Dakota Phillips and Breyden Mucho each scored a goal for the Bulldogs, who improved to 5-0 in the section and 6-1 overall. It was the first section loss for Monessen.

B-C goalkeeper John Berdar made seven saves.

• Trinity fell to .500 on the season with a 6-1 loss at Mt. Lebanon in Section 4-AAA.

Preston Kulla scored Trinity’s lone goal off an assist by Austin Armstrong. The Hillers are 2-2 in section and 3-3 overall.

• South Fayette improved its record to 8-0 – with eight shutouts – by blanking visiting Obama Academy 5-0 in Section 5-AA.

Jordan Smith scored two goals to lead the Lions’ attack. Brian Coyne, Jake Thomas and Chris Dedi each had one goal. Goalkeeper Alex Gedrys played the first half and Andrew Pine played the second half.

• Defending WPIAL champion Canon-McMillan remained undefeated with a 3-0 victory over visiting Moon in Section 5-AAA.

Jake Wilcox scored two goals, and Corey McCurdy had one, for the Big Macs, who ran their record to 6-0-1, including 3-0-1 in the section. Christian Snatchko was the goalkeeper for C-M.

• Jake Fulton scored two goals to lead Chartiers-Houston to a 3-1 victory over Bentworth in a Section 4-A match.

Matt Hlasnick added the other goal for the Bucs, who are 1-4 in the section.

Darin Hayes scored for Bentworth (0-2-2 in section).

• Tyler Harris had a hat trick to help McGuffey rout Uniontown, 12-0, in a Section 6-AA match. Nate Stout and Aaron Harris each scored two goals apiece.

Aaron Lytton, Nick Loughman, Matt Nardi, Travis Brownlee and Brady Reitmeyer added single goals for McGuffey (5-0, 7-2), which is unbeaten in its last 17 section matches dating back to last season.

• Troy Eskew scored twice to power Peters Township to a 3-0 victory over Brashear in a Section 5-AAA match. Nico Mastrangelo had the other goal for PT (4-2, 7-1).

Maddie Schwerzler scored with 22 minutes to play Tuesday to give Peters Township a 1-0 victory over Chartiers Valley in a Section 5-AAA match.

Schwerzler sent in a corner kick by Laurel Carpenter. Megan Parker made three saves for PT 4-0, 7-2). CV fell to 8-1, including 3-1 in the section.

• Adrianna Gottheld and Halee Sedrick each had a hat trick in Charleroi’s 11-0 victory over Uniontown in a non-section match.

Kyra Watkins added two goals for the Cougars (4-2) and Abigial Large, Morgan Riley and Rachel Ritzer each scored one. Sydney Toth recorded the shutout.
