Boys soccer: Bizarre, early ending to Canon-Mac win
Nick Sodini scored two goals as Canon-McMillan defeated Brashear, 4-0, in a Section 5-AAA match Tuesday that ended under unusual circumstances.
Josh Kruczek and Corey McCurdy also scored for the Big Macs (5-0-2, 8-0-2), who won the match via forfeit when the Brashear coach pulled her team off the pitch just 14 minutes and 27 seconds into the game, citing a dispute over the officiating, and refused to return. The match ended at that point.
• Peters Township scored two second-half goals and pulled away for a 3-0 victory over host Ambridge in Section 5-AAA.
The Indians (5-1-1, 8-2-1), who are battling Upper St. Clair and Canon-McMillan for the section title, took a 1-0 lead in the first half on a goal by Wes Ward. Brady Pike scored off an assist by Dylan Weyers in the second half to make it 2-0, and Nicco Mastrangelo scored the final goal with 18 minutes remaining off an assist by Bennett Faloni.
Goalkeeper Josh Deyarmin made three saves.
• It was another match, other shutout for South Fayette.
The Lions used Brian Coyne’s goal 30 minutes into the game to defeat visiting Montour, 1-0, in Section 5-AA. Ed Terrell assisted on Coyne’s goal, which improved South Fayette’s record to 10-0-1 overall. The Lions have outscored their opponents 40-0 for the season.
It was the 11th shutout for Lions goalkeeper Alex Gedrys.
• Tyler Harris scored a pair of goals as McGuffey defeated Waynesburg, 2-0, in a Section 6-AA match.
Evan King had four saves in goal for McGuffey (7-0, 9-2).
Christian Wilson was in goal for Waynesburg (3-3-1, 4-6-1).
• Cole Wingard had two goals as Chartiers-Houston defeated California, 2-1, in Section 4-A.
Kevin Peterman scored for California (3-3-1, 4-4-1). CH is 2-5-1, 2-8-2.
