Soccer roundup: Mastrangelo scores 2 goals in PT victory

Nicco Mastrangelo scored two goals, including the clincher with four minutes remaining, as Peters Township defeated visiting Moon, 3-1, Thursday night in Section 5-AAA.

Mastrangelo opened the scoring with a goal off a corner kick by Troy Eskew in the first half. Eskew gave PT (5-1-1, 8-2-1) a 2-0 first-half lead with a goal. After Moon pulled to within 2-1 in the second half, Mastrangelo secured the win for the Indians with his second goal.

• Nick Lancaster scored two goals to lead visiting Laurel Highlands to a 3-1 victory over McGuffey in a battle of top teams in Section 6-AA.

A goal by Tyler Harris tied the score at 1-1 with three minutes to play in the first half.

McGuffey is 7-1 in section and 9-3 overall. LH is 7-1, 8-3.

• Nick Sodini and Josh Kruczek provided the offense and goalkeeper Christian Snatchko notched his ninth shutout as Canon-McMillan defeated Mt. Lebanon, 2-0, in a game played at Highmark Stadium in Pittsburgh.

Sodini scored off an assist from Kruczek 15 minutes into the second half, and Kruczek sealed the win for C-M (9-0-2) by scoring with five minutes left. Sodini registered an assist on the Kruczek goal.

• Jake Fulton and Cole Wingard scored second-half goals to power Chartiers-Houston to a 2-1 victory over Beth-Center in Section 4-A.

Following a scoreless first half, Fulton and Wingard gave C-H (3-5-1 in section) a 2-0 lead. A goal by Aaron Ankney pulled B-C (6-2) to within 2-1 but the Bulldogs were unable to get the tying goal.

• Bailey McIntyre and James Ewing each scored two goals as Geibel remained unbeaten in Section 4-A with a 6-0 win over host Bentworth.

Geibel is 4-0-2 in the section. Bentworth falls to 1-5-2.

• Bethel Park used goals by Matt Gallagher and Nick Schimbhett to defeat Trinity, 2-0, in Section 4-AAA. Bethel Park is 7-0-1, 10-2-1. Trinity is 2-5, 3-6.

Girls soccer

Sarah Maniecki scored two goals, and Mirana Vankirk assisted on two scores, as Bentworth defeated host Monessen, 6-0, in Section 2-A.

Lauren Ruffing, Madison Jones, Danielle Gondiak and Madison Alauzen also scored goals for Bentworth (5-3, 6-5). Goalkeeper Jeanna Brewer made three saves.
