Kulla scores 3 goals in Trinity victory
Preston Kulla had a big game Saturday on Senior Recognitition Day for Trinity. Kulla scored three goals as the Hillers blanked McKeesport 4-0.
Dawson Hilk had one goal and an assist for Trinity, which is 3-5, 4-6. McKeesport fell to 1-8, 1-13-1.
• Upper St. Clair dealt visiting Canon-McMillan its first Section 5-AAA loss of the season, 4-1, in a battle of top WPIAL teams.
USC remains in first place in the section at 8-0-1 (11-0-1 overall). C-M drops to third place in the tight section at 5-1-2 (9-1-2 overall), just behind second-place Peters Township (6-1-1, 7-4-1).
• McGuffey was playing without three starters, but the Highlanders still managed to defeat host Charleroi, 4-0, in Section 6-AA.
Aaron Harris scored two goals, Wes Duda had a goal and an assist and Tyler Harris tallied one goal for the Highlanders, who moved to 8-1 in section and 10-2 overall. Charleroi is 4-5 in section.
McGuffey goalkeeper Eben King made five saves.
Sisters Samantha and Sabrina Bryan each scored a goal Saturday afternoon as Canon-McMillan defeated visiting Upper St. Clair, 3-0, in Section 5-AAA.
Aideen O’Donoghue also had a goal for C-M, which improved to 5-1-1 in the section and 7-2-2 overall. Big Macs goalkeeper Kyra Muphy had a busy day as she made 20 saves in the shutout.
• Nina Tyszkiewicz’s goal with 10 minutes remaining broke a tie and gave South Allegheny a 2-1 victory over Chartiers-Houston in Section 2-A.
Chartiers-Houston’s Jesse Serra and SA’s Amber Brownfield had scored goals that left the match tied at 1-1, setting up Tyszkiewicz’s game-winner.
C-H goalkeeper Addy Knetzer stopped 15 shots. The Bucs fell to 3-5 in section and 6-7 overall.
