Softball: Weiss, McGuffey cruise past Wash High
Cassie Weiss struck out 13 and allowed two hits in six innings as McGuffey downed Washington, 10-0, in a Section 2-AA game.
Rachel Kleinhans had a two-run double for the Highlanders (3-1, 6-1). Sammie Weiss had a double and C.C. Wagner scored three runs.
Washington fell to 0-3, 0-2 in the section.
• Junior pitcher Maddie Ludrosky threw a four-inning no-hitter and Autumn Tedrow had a three-run homer and double as Jefferson-Morgan defeated visiting Mapletown 15-0 in a four-inning Section 2-A game.
Ludrosky struck out eight and did not walk a batter as Jefferson-Morgan improved to 3-1 in section and 4-1 overall.
Reagan Rush hit a two-run homer in the first inning for the Rockets, and Camryrn Dugan, Morgan Simkovic and Christian Agnew each hit a double. Tedrow’s homer ended the game.
Mapletown is 0-3, 0-3.
• Chartiers-Houston scored five early runs and winning pitcher Kassie Kesneck made the lead stand as the Bucs edged visiting Bentworth 5-4 in Section 2-AA.
Kesneck helped her cause by going 2-for-3 with two runs. Haley Sutton drove in two runs and Megan Kraushaar doubled for C-H (1-1, 3-3).
Morgan Vickless hit two doubles for Bentworth (2-1, 3-4). Losing pitcher Casey Hite had seven strikeouts.
• Morgan Riley had three hits, including a double, to lead unbeaten Charleroi to a 12-1 victory over East Allegheny in a Section 4-AA game.
Winning pitcher Anjie Tilghman and Jordan Swarmer both doubled, while Kaitlyn McCann tripled for the Cougars (2-0, 4-0).
Kaitlyn Keenan tripled and doubled for East Allegheny (0-2, 0-2).
• Emily Bryan hit two home runs and drove in five runs to lead South Fayette to a 17-0 three-inning win over Carrick in a Section 2-AAA game.
Ashley Iagnemma struck out six batters and only walked two to earn the win for the Lions (3-0, 4-0). Sara Jubas added two doubles for South Fayette and Courtney Blocher went 2-for-2 with five RBI.
The Lions had six runs in the first inning, added two in the second and nine in the third to end the game.
• Erica Burns fired a one-hitter with 17 strikeouts and no walks, and also tripled, as Carmichaels defeated Monessen, 6-0, in a Section 2-A game.
Chelsea McCann doubled for Carmichaels (2-1, 4-1).
Janae Evans had the lone hit for Monessen (1-3, 1-4).
• Alyssa Raber went 3-for-4 with a double and four RBI to power West Greene to a 12-8 victory over Frazier in a Section 2-A game.
Madison Raber went 2-for-3 with a double and three runs for the Pioneers (3-0, 3-3). Shelby Morris added a double.
Kelsey Holp had two doubles and Monica Joseph one for Frazier (3-1, 3-2).
• Winning pitcher Carly Konopka had three hits, including a double, as Peters Township ripped Mt. Lebanon, 16-1, in a four-inning Section 4-AAAA game.
Lindsay McKnight homered, while Maghan Bastyr and Alexis McKnight also doubled for the Indians (3-0, 3-3).
• Alexis Pilch’s lead-off triple in the first inning sparked a seven runs to propel Bishop Canevin to a 10-0 win over Avella in a Section 1-A game.
Ky Sonson struck out seven and pitched a complete game to lead the Crusaders to the win (2-0, 2-0). Bishop Canevin added three runs in the top of the fifth inning to put the game away.
