Steelers to introduce pricing system
The Steelers will introduce a new variable pricing system this season for all of their tickets.
Variable pricing is a concept being used by other teams in the NFL, as well as in the NBA, NHL, Major League Baseball and the NCAA. Its purpose is to better reflect the value of the tickets based on such aspects as preseason versus regular season, as well as opponent, day of the week, time of the game and placement in the season.
For example, a Monday night game would likely be valued greater than a Sunday afternoon game, depending on the opponent, while all preseason games will come at a lower price.
The new pricing plan will not change the cost of the overall season ticket package, but will instead weight individual games differently.
There will be three price tiers within the variable pricing plan: preseason, black and gold. The games in each tier will be determined after the NFL releases its 2014 schedule.
The NFL schedule will be released April 17.
“We have listened to our fans to gauge the value of each game, and this variable plan will allow them to get the best value for their ticket,” said Steelers Communications Coordinator Burt Lauten.
Steelers season ticket holders recently received information on the variable pricing ticket plan with their season ticket invoice. The individual game tickets will be on sale after the NFL schedule is released.
In other news Friday, the Steelers hosted a pair of rookies as part of their pre-draft visits. In town Friday were Minnesota safety Brock Vereen and South Carolina wide receiver Bruce Ellington.
Vereen is considered a late-round prospect, while Ellington is likely to be selected in the middle rounds.
