H.S. baseball: Bowman leads Rockets to win
Jefferson-Morgan senior Logan Bowman pitched a complete game shutout and drove in two runs in the third inning to lead the Rockets to a 3-0 Section 1-A win over West Greene.
Bowman struck out 10 and his two-run single in the bottom of the third was the game-winner for Jefferson-Morgan (1-0, 1-4). The Pioneers (0-2, 2-3) got three hits off Bowman, but could not manufacture a run.
The Rockets scored an additional run in the bottom of the sixth as a base runner scored on an error.
• Teagan Piechnick hit two home runs and Jake Trainor tossed a three-hitter as Canon-McMillan shut out Upper St. Clair, 4-0, in Section 5-AAAA game.
Piechnick, who has six home runs on the season, hit two solo shots for the Big Macs (one in the sixth and one in the third). Trainor struck out five and did not walk a batter. Jared Beach had an RBI triple and Tanner Piechnick had a double.
• Brownsville scored on a sacrifice fly in the top of the eighth inning to edge Bentworth, 5-4, in a Section 2-AA game.
Winning pitcher Ryan Novotney also doubled for Brownsville (2-1, 3-3), which also got a double from Tucker Pritts.
Taylor Bunner doubled for Bentworth (0-2, 4-2), while Riley Nickeson took the loss.
• Ryan Zalar had four hits and Mike Blasinsky added three as Carmichaels pounded out 15 singles in a 15-5 five-inning Section 1-A win over Avella.
Cory Fuller earned the win for Carmichaels (1-0, 4-0).
Santino Paris had a pair of doubles and Joe Gagliani added for for Avella (0-1, 1-1). Walt Kopko took the loss.
• Dylan Rhodes hit a two-run double to highlight a three-run fourth inning as Waynesburg edged McGuffey, 4-3, in a Section 3-AAA game.
Winning pitcher Jonn Coss ad Hunter Robinson added doubles, while Aaron Hill tripled for Waynesburg (1-0, 3-2).
Joey Townsend doubled for McGuffey (0-1, 0-4), while Matt Chambers took the loss.
